In this introductory video, PJ Redmond explains exactly what the Court of Common Pleas is, and what the institution does for the Citizens of Chester County, Pennsylvania. In this video, PJ Redmond explains how the President Judge assigns the 14 Judges to the various divisions of the Chester County Common Pleas Court according to the Court's need and their experience. These are the Family Division, the Civil Division, the Criminal Court, or to the 'Orphans Court' (an old-fashioned name for the division that handles estates and adoptions). PJ say that he has worked as a lawyer in all of them., and he recommends that voters elect a Judge who has done the work. The video then introduces Malvern resident Lizanne Redmond, PJ's cousin, who notes that even though that is the case, she is a registered Democrat who doesn't give him a complete blanket of approval. That said, she goes on to say that she truly believes in PJ, citing his unmatched reputation, his legal skills, his even-temperedness, and his fairness. In this video, PJ Redmond explains that countries with written Constitutions are more successful than those who can change the law easily, because they benefit from dependable results over time. He gives the example of our Fourth Amendment, which protects Citizens against government searches or seizes. He notes that the same written laws protected a farmer in the 1780s, a general store in the 1890s, a bar in 1920s, just as they do a software company today. Established principles from the past help decide present issues. Consistent rules, consistently interpreted. The video then introduces West Chester resident Will Ansley, who cites PJ’s knowledge and experience with the intricacies of both the US Constitution and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and how important they are to the people. He says that, as a Judge, PJ will provide the kind of consistency that enables a strong community. In this video, PJ Redmond first quotes Thomas Jefferson, who once said, "We do not have a government by the majority...we have a government by the majority who participate." PJ goes on to say that Mail-In Ballots make participation easier than ever before. (Though he understands that they are controversial for some, he says that this is for you to decide.) If Mail-In Ballots make sense for you, October 31 (Halloween) is the last day you can request a Mail-In Ballot. PJ then encourages those who receive a Mail-In Ballot to return them right away. They need to be mailed or dropped off no later than 8:00pm on Election Day, November 7.
